Willie Garson
Garson's unorthodox bald and bespectacled look won over fans on Sex and the City..
where he played Carrie Bradshaw’s gay best friend, Stanford Blatch. Most famous for this role, he's appeared in over 200 episodes of various other US sitcoms.Garson was born in Highland Park, New Jersey, graduated from Highland Park High School in 1992 and started training at the Actors Institute in New York when he was only 13. He also studied at the prestigious Yale Drama School.
On the big screen, Garson made a few good friends in high places, collaborating with offbeat and innovative directors Bobby and Peter Farrelly in three of their films: Kingpin, There’s Something about Mary and Fever Pitch. Garson also appeared in several quirky ensemble comedies such as the feature films Soapdish, Mars Attacks and Being John Malkovich.
Garson has stayed busy playing recurring characters in a wide array of television projects, including Stargate SG-1, Star Trek: Voyager, The X-Files and NYPD Blue. David E. Kelley, a fan of Garson’s, also cast him in episodes of two of his most acclaimed legal shows, Ally McBeal and The Practice. He was later given a role in John from Cincinnati, and as one of the leads on White Collar.
Garson has performed with various bicoastal theater companies in New York and Los Angeles, and has been a member of prestigious groups such as Naked Angels, the Manhattan Theater Club, the Roundabout Theater and the Geffen Playhouse. He’s also involved in numerous community and charity organizations – from Big Brothers to Young Artists United. The big-hearted thespian also reads to first graders weekly through the Screen Actors Guild "Bookpals" program.
Aside from acting on television and the big screen, Garson also found success as a celebrity poker player. In 2003, "Evil Willie" (a nickname given to Garson for his fierce card playing) won his round of Texas Hold ‘Em on the hit show Celebrity Poker Showdown.
