Hey Wilders! One of the best things about our job is we are able to get involved with all sorts of sports, activities and events. One of the not so good things is this means we do a lot of stories on things we've never done before - like lacrosse.
Haha the other day I hung out with the girl's South Australian State Lacrosse Team and Courtney Hobbes, Vice Captain of the Women's Australian Team. Now I've played netball, volleyball and Aussie Rules Football before so I figured this would be a piece of cake and I'd be one of the team in no time! So they girls chucked me into the deep end, gave me a stick and off I went straight onto the field. We got stuck into a game and let's just say I didn't last very long. Within five minutes I'd been picked up by Courtney for touching the ball, being offside, contact, trapping and illegally checking, AND I hardly even knew what these terms meant!
So it was obvious I needed a bit more training so they talked me through the rules (I think I may have upset the girl I contacted a bit, woops! I promise it was a pure accident argh!!!) and I began to discover what lacrosse was all about. These girls sure work hard out there – it's tiring stuff!
In the end they told me I should try my luck in a different position (yes they were very subtle, clearly I'm a State lacrosse player in the making haha) and they popped me in goal. And to put it simply, my day finished with about a thousand bruises after being pelted by lacrosse balls and failing miserably to defend the goal post.
So there you have it - we can't be good at everything!
I was a hilarious fun day and lacrosse is one very cool sport once you get the hang of it! Stay tuned for when this story hits your screen in the next few months!
Hope you're all going well, send us an email and let us know what you're up to, we'd love to hear from you!!
