Sean gets to experience a muster in the outback and get behind the scenes at one of the largest tropical reef tanks in the world!
This week, I experienced a muster of cattle through the outback. This is probably one of the coolest stories I have done in a while. We were up on a massive cattle property north of Cairns which have a large head of Brahman cows and bulls. Firstly the helicopter was sent out to find the cattle and drive them out of the bush, and once they had been flushed out, in came the horses, quad bikes and dogs. The horses keep the cattle together and moving in the right direction and the dogs make sure the mob doesn't stray off course. It really was amazing to see all the different elements come together and muster the cattle into the yards
A bit further south in Townsville we checked in on Reef HQ, which is a massive tropical research centre and aquarium; in fact it has one of the largest tropical reef aquariums in the world. I got to go behind the scenes and see how they manage such a massive tank. The have a lab devoted to managing the water quality to make sure the temperature and pH levels are perfect. They also have a lot of hungry mouths to feed, from anemone fish and blue tangs to massive groupers and sharks, there is a lot on the menu. They even have a special rehab facility for injured sea turtles.
