… which meant that there were in for some big days - but extremely fun days! We knocked over everything from whale watching to Dingo spotting to the Island’s sewage plant.
Whale watching was breathtaking! We spotted a female and her calf, who luckily decided that we as interesting to watch as they were for us - and they weren’t shy at all! The calf was full of energy doing breaches all over the place, and both of them gave us a special treat of swimming so close to the boat we could almost have touched them (but of course.. didn’t).
We were up at 3:30 one morning to go dingo spotting. Our first location gave us a beautiful sunrise, but sadly no dingoes. So we crossed to the east side of the Island, where we were about ready to give up hope and then a female came wandering past us! She must have known how relieved we were to finally see one as she stuck around for a while - and even pounced on a skink and ate it!
I also headed out to a pearl farm and found out all about the fascinating process of growing pearls. I even got to harvest my own- and got it made in to a necklace! (Spoilt… I know)
We also ventured through the diverse ecosystems of the island- from the dunes, to woodlands to the most luscious rainforest I have ever set foot in, found some Tree Water Spiders with arachnologist Robert Raven and of course found out where all of the sewage goes!
