The inspirational true story of jockey Damien Oliver’s triumph at the 2002 Melbourne Cup following a family tragedy hits the big screen this week. Oliver won the race on Media Puzzle just days after his brother Jason was killed in a racing accident. Portraying Oliver is actor and comedian Stephen Curry who joins us on The Circle couch to discuss what it took for him to get into jockey mode.

Sally-Anne McCormack
Learning to use the toilet is a big step for toddlers and it can be difficult for some. Some children just seem to train themselves when they’re ready, but many need some help from their parents. Toilet training is an important milestone and when it doesn’t go smoothly it can be a nightmare. To help us through it we’re joined by child psychologist Sally-Anne McCormack.

Yumi & Yoshiko Cooking
We welcome Yumi’s mum Yoshiko into The Circle kitchen to share some popular traditional Japanese dishes; Miso Soup and Norimaki Rolls. Lending a hand is Olivia Newton John.

Professor Kate Burridge
School teachers around the country groaned in unison last week as Chris Lilley’s latest mockumentary TV series, Angry Boys, aired for the first time. Why? Because they knew without fail, they’d be facing taunts from their students the following morning as kids around the country adopt the catch phrases from the show. To discuss the phenomenon of words and phrases from TV and movies moving off the screens and into our everyday lexicon, we’re joined by the head of Linguistics at Monash University, Professor Kate Burridge.

Melinda Cruz & Danielle Matthews
Every year in Australia around 42,000 newborn babies require the help of a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit or Special Care Nursery. 23,000 of these babies are born premature and up to 1000 babies lose their fight for life. Miracle Babies Foundation is a national organization that supports premature and sick newborns, their families and the hospitals that care for them. Miracle Babies CEO, Melinda Cruz, and its ambassador, Danielle Matthews, tell us about the important work of the organisation.
