3 steps to winter-proofing your skin:
1. Change your skincare with the season.
Why: Just like your makeup and clothes, you need to change you skincare for winter. Switch things like foamy cleansers and alcohol-based toners that strip oil to creamy, moisturising products that nourish the skin. And consider a richer face cream to create more moisture, and trap what moisture there is.
Suggestion: Olay Regenerist Intensive Night Revitalising Cream, both VERY hydrating and with amino-peptides encourages mild cell-regeneration/exfoliation, which means you’re shedding all those dry skin cells up top, and letting fresh ones come through.
2. Use a hydrating serum.
Why: With heaters, doonas, wind, air con and cold air, skin gets very dry. The easiest way to fix this is to slip in a hydrating serum before your day and night cream, which, because it has concentrated, skin-quenching ingredients, will help your skin counter flaky, dry skin.
Suggestion: A wonderful all-skin, all-purpose hydrating serum is Trilogy organic rosehip oil, which is also a wonderful anti-ageing and skin softening, do-it-all product suitable for all skin types.
3. Exfoliate.
Why: If you’ve upped your moisturisation without first exfoliating your skin, you’ll end up with breakouts and dull skin. A gentle peel once a week removes the dead skin cells that clog the skin and give a dull complexion. You get an instant glowing complexion and whatever you put on after the peel is able to penetrate deeper too.
Suggestion: The REN Glycolactic Skin Renewal Peel Mask is a fruit-acid based peel that’s great for flaky skin, fine lines and congestion, and while potent, is gentler than most DIY peels. Use weekly. Not suitable for sensitive skin.
