The Simpsons is an animated comedy based on the middle class in America reflected through the Simpson family.The Simpsons created by Matt Groening is the longest-running primetime animated series in history. The Simpsons has an extremely loyal fan base worldwide. Intelligently written, humorous and witty, the show pokes fun at itself and everything in its wake including American society and culture. The Simpsons is set in the town of Springfield. Homer works as a safety inspector at the local nuclear power plant and Marge runs the household. Bart is a mischievous 10-year-old and his sister 8-year-old Lisa is the intelligent, saxophone-playing, vegetarian member of the family and their baby sister Maggie conveys emotions via pacifier sucks.
About the start of The SimpsonsThe family was conceived by Matt Groening just before a pitch for a series of animated shorts for James L.Brooks. He sketched out his version of a dysfunctional family, and named the characters after members of his own family, substituting Bart for his own name. Viewers also have come to know and love the rich, and sometimes quirky characters who live in Springfield. The series has had a vast array of supporting characters, including co-workers, teachers, family friends, extended relatives, and local celebrities. Catchphrases and words that have been used on The Simspons have been accepted into everyday language.
