Digital TV on TEN
Network Ten is at forefront of digital television in Australia. Network TEN was the first television network in Australia to commence digital television transmissions, trialing digital services a year ahead of the official start date. TEN has been broadcasting in digital 24 hours a day, seven days a week, since 1 January 2001.
Network TEN transmits three principal television services: analogue, standard definition digital television (SDTV), and high definition digital television (HDTV) 24 hours a day, which means you can watch your favourite programs any way you want them.
High Definition Digital Programs
At TEN, we're serious about giving you the best possible viewing experience. That's why Network TEN transmits in a high definition format 24 hours a day.
Even better, many of our most popular programs are televised in "native" High Definition, for example, the 2007 AFL series, the Law and Order franchise, Medium, NCIS, The Late Show with David Letterman, Scope, and Totally Wild. Native HD programs means that the program is created and broadcast in a HD format, ensuring the best quality viewing experience.
See the TV guide in this website for the latest information on which programs are in HD. HD information is also displayed on our video program guide on the digital television service which can be found on Channel 11 TEN Guide.
If you have a high definition receiver, then Network TEN is best viewed on Channel 12 TEN HD.
Standard Definition Digital Programs
All of Network TEN’s programs are also available in standard definition digital (SDTV) format. Many of these programs are also available in widescreen, including News, Neighbours, Rove Live, Charmed, Medical Investigation and many more.
The program guide section in this website will help you find out which programs are in digital widescreen.
If you have a standard definition only television receiver or set top box then TEN’s regular SD programs are best viewed on Channel 1 or 10 TEN Digital on your set. These channels are always set to standard definition. If you view Network Ten on Channel 12 TEN HD your set may “freeze” or simply not display a picture when high definition television (HDTV) programs are televised.
Changes to TEN's Digital Service
Network TEN upgraded its digital television services during December 2006 to provide a better quality service in preparation for sports broadcasts in high definition in 2007. TEN's high definition service (Digital Channel 12) now offers excellent picture quality with resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels.
While the majority of newer model digital television receivers automatically adjust to these changes, if viewers experience any problems receiving TEN's digital services after TEN's change it is recommended they firstly re-scan their receiver.
Viewers should first consult their receiver’s operating manual to determine how to perform such a re-scan and contact support the manufacturer or supplier of their digital television receiver in the event that they require further assistance.
