Network Ten Perth News Presenter Craig Smart has enjoyed a diverse work-life.
On first leaving school he ventured away from the city to work on farms in the state’s Kimberley and Wheatbelt regions.
Before long he returned to study, qualifying as an English teacher. After five years teaching at country schools, Craig and his wife went on to work as carers for autistic people.
He and his wife travelled for several months in Europe, before living and teaching for a time in London.
Returning to Perth at the end of 1996, Craig began selling feature stories to The West Australian and, from that, decided to pursue journalism studies. He won Murdoch University’s top journalism student prize and, subsequently, a cadetship with WA Newspapers.
It wasn’t long before he was asked to join the ABC as a reporter and radio news presenter in the state’s south. He spent several years with the ABC in Albany, then returned to Perth and began the transition into statewide radio news presentation. He spent five years as the broadcaster’s weekend television news anchor. In 2011, he joined the Channel Ten News team.
Craig pursues numerous interests including, music, cycling, travel and the culture and language of France.
