Michael has presented the weather on Perth's 'Ten News at Five' for the last decade.
He brings us Perth's most detailed weather segment based on information collected from the Bureau of Meteorology.
This he visits every afternoon for a face to face briefing with the senior duty forecaster.
Michael's media life started in 1985 when he joined the ABC as a Trainee Rural Reporter in Sydney. This has lead to a radio and television career that's covered three states with postings in Newcastle, Mount Gambier, Geraldton and Perth. Michael has worked on some of Western Australia's longest running and popular radio programs including 720ABC Perth's Breakfast and Evening shows, the Country Hour, Corrugation Street and Beyond the Bitumen. These last two programs were created by Michael to bring country issues to the city audience. Beyond the Bitumen is still put to air by members of the ABC Rural Department twice a week as part of 720's Breakfast Show. Television Weather became part of Michaels ABC duties in early 1988 and he made the move to Ten in January 1998.
Our weatherman's early years were spent in South Australia. He was born in the Barossa Valley town of Angaston and grew up in Hamley Bridge and Kapunda. All or these towns are within 100km of Adelaide. He was educated in Kapunda before finishing his schooling at Sacred Heart College in Adelaide. After leaving school Michael studied wool-classing and became a stock and station agent travelling to many parts of South Australia. He loved the time he spent on Eyre Peninsular around Streaky Bay, Cummins and Kyancutta. Then it was off to the Big Smoke of Sydney and a new beginning.
Michael is married to Linda and they have two children Max and Rosie. His hobbies cover a diverse range of interests from painting to golf, gardening and red wine collecting. Watching football is another of his past times. His team’s the Crows. However the Eagles and Dockers feature high on the list unless they’re playing the Crows.
Animals need good homes with responsible owners and Michael gives some of his air time to the RSPCA to find new homes for the dogs, cats and the other poor creatures that find themselves in the animal shelter at Malaga. Perth Zoo also benefits from broadcasts Michael does with the animals from there.
