Each year Emirates takes on a destination as its theme and this is year it is Austria - Vienna complete with the city’s many splendours and food to tantalise guests’ eyes and tastes buds. It’s also the only marquee that comes complete with its very own spa.

Today I am talking with the spa’s talented hair stylists from ConradMace and they will be taking us through a few looks. Hats are not the only accessory to complete a look; I have it on good authority from these guys that a great hair style done well can equally complete your look.

We will be looking at three hair styles:

The first will be one that must be left in the hands of professionals. The hair is prepped; blow dried and put up artfully so that there is no chance of hair dramas spoiling your day at the races.

The second is the time tested ponytail. The completed style is ageless, timeless and fuss free. It keeps all the hair in place for you to enjoy the day whatever the occasion. A good ponytail though takes more than just a hair band.

The trusted ponytail

- First wash and blow dry for volume. Begin with towel-dried hair. Spritz a volumiser onto the roots, and use a paddle brush to pull hair directly up from the scalp while you dry. Or alternatively use a hair straightener with a straightening lotion if you are not deft with the brush and hairdryer.

-Decide where you want to place the ponytail on your head - For energy and bounce and a great look; go with a high ponytail positioned at the crown of your head somewhere just above the top of your ears. You can have it lower to give the look a more summery, relaxed feel too.

-Brush into place. Use a wide paddle brush to sweep hair back. Gather the ponytail in your hand and secure with snag free elastic. Tug one lock of hair around the elastic and secure the end with a bobby pin.

- Finishing touches either use a hair straightener to add a few curls or gather your ponytail in a huge roller secure it and wait a good few minutes and undo the roller for a really bouncy finish.

- Little touches to get rid of flyaways are to use a tooth brush and spray it with hairspray and go over the tiny hairs - this will certainly keep them in place.

-To complete the look attach a large bow at the base or a hair band around the head

The third look is similar to the ponytail but a low side do that is becoming increasingly popular.

- Prep hair as before

-Side part your hair

-Brush hair low around to one side to make a low pony.

-Tease pony and smooth. With your fingers roll up pony to meet the base, fold it there by pinning bobby pins. You will need about four or five.

- Select large flowers like lilies as they work best, attach the flowers on either side or which ever way you please around the pony.

And remember a style emergency kit is always handy. It doesn't have to be enormous, just choose your products carefully.
