Featured Artist
One's next featured artist is Handasyd Williams.
When Handasyd Williams released his first solo acoustic album after a decade of playing in two very successful independent rock bands, he had already forged a reputation as a very unique and congruent songwriter. He then proceeded to effortlessly create his own niche within Sydney's acoustic scene as he took his fiercely passionate songs and gave his own take of what a roots song should sound like.
A potent blend of folk and alternative country, complete with politically charged anthems through to poignant, heartfelt ballads, Handasyd Williams voice is seemingly an instrument in itself. Unique and impassioned with a lilt in it that literally bleeds the words, he truly has something to say lyrically, yet cannot be classified nor placed alongside any other trend, genre or artist at this time. Dividing his time evenly between Solo shows and playing in his Alt-Country band "The Brother's Primitive", Handasyd Williams in any live form is a distinctly engaging experience.
His unique rendition of Dragon's "Ordinary Men" is further testament to Handasyd's set of skills. The acoustic version of this classic eighty's rock song is basically a rewrite and is virtually unrecognisable save for the haunting and plaintive chorus which of course is immediately recognisable. A clear indicator of a confident and creative songwriting talent at ease in any medium or genre of his liking. One is very happy to have "Ordinary Men" as the soundtrack to our current Idents (see clip below).
