'Hit' File Details

Address: The Crescent and Johnston Street, Annandale

Overview/Objective: We wanted to transform an ugly, neglected piece of land into an intriguing garden that would be fun for local kids to visit and also attractive for the thousands of motorists who pass the site every day.

Interesting Facts: Before we ‘hit’ a site, we usually like to know who owns it. (There are exceptions like Cleveland Street). But for this Annandale project it was tricky. The site was right on the border of two councils. This worked in our favour because it took a while for the Leichardt rangers to work out who actually owned the land. By the time they realised it was within the Leichardt area, we were able to install the troll and plant most of the daisies.

Plants that were originally planned for the garden:
 - Juniperus Virginiana ‘Spartan’
 - Chrysanthemum paludosum  (White Majestic Snow Daisy)

Ally's mad rush to get more white plants meant she bought:
 - Cosmos
 - Erigeron Profusion
 - Cuphea hyssopifolia
 - Calibrachoa syn:Sunbelho - White Chimes (these did best of all the plants)
 - Pimelea linifolia  (White Jewel)
