The discovery of gold around the Kalgoorlie/Coolgardie region in the mid 1890’s would give rise to one of the great gold rushes in Australia’s history – but it would also inspire the construction of an extraordinary pipeline
one that would carry something almost as precious as the gold - water. More than a hundred years later the golden pipeline remains the largest of its type on earth, supplying water to over 100,000 people in a vast area of grazing and mining country. The Golden Pipeline Heritage Trail extends from Perth to the rich goldfields of Kalgoorlie 650 kilometres to the east and is a testament to the pioneering and engineering spirit that has built Western Australia’s golden west. This is a documentary that follows that pipeline, its remarkable history, the people that rely on it, the mines that exist because of it and the impact it’s had on developing the wealth of the nation.
