Eight years ago, 30-year-old Deano decided he'd be better suited as lifeguard than a plumber

In series two Deano won audience hearts by proposing to his girlfriend Lily amongst the waves at Bondi, and his thoughtful nature and diplomacy, has made him a hit among the team.

In 2008 he hopes to take out the lifeguard challenge beating old rivals Greg Bishop and Scotty Thompson.

 Have you always worked at Bondi Beach?
I started out as a pool lifeguard at East Leagues Club

 What made you become a Lifeguard?
 I was sick of being a plumber.

 Best thing about being a Lifeguard? 
Working with a fantastic bunch of guys.

 Worst thing about being a Lifeguard? 
Not seeing my wife on most weekends and public holidays.

 Who out of the Bondi Lifeguards would you most want to be rescued by, and why? 
Hoppo without a doubt as he has made very few mistakes in the 7 years I have worked with him.

 What do you like to do when you're not working at the beach?
 If I'm feeling active I am always keen for golf, yoga, squash or surfing. If I'm a little tired, which is often the case after a big week, I like to relax at home with the TV or a good book.
