Luke Darcy
Few players have shown themselves to be as ready for a career in the media while still playing, as Network Ten and ONE's Luke Darcy.
The one-time Western Bulldogs captain closed the playing chapter of this life in 2007, having played over 200 games for the club his father David represented with distinction in the 1960s.
A father-son selection in 1992 from South Adelaide, Luke made his debut in 1994 and emerged as one of the AFL's leading ruckman. He won the Bulldogs' best and fairest award in 2001 before gaining All-Australian selection and winning the AFLPA MVP award in 2002.
Luke endured two knee reconstructions in 2005-06 after assuming the captaincy of the club. Alongside his rehabilitation, Luke honed his media skills with stints as part of Ten's AFL coverage and on radio with 3AW. His understanding of the modern game, presentation skills and ability to interact with those on-air alongside him made Luke a favourite among audiences.
Season 2009 sees Luke take up and even broader role on the other side of the fence, continuing his AFL commentating while also taking the up the challenge of hosting ONE's extensive ANZ Netball Championships alongside Australian Netball legend Liz Ellis.
Luke will continue in radio with SEN1116's AFL team along with working in a Game Development role with the AFL and running his new hotel, The Precinct, just few minutes from the MCG.
